The Fourth of July – Lopez Island has a special way of celebrating the Fourth of July. It has become one of Washington State’s most treasured celebrations. Visitors come from all over to participate in this unique small town event.
- The day begins with the Fun Run/Walk, sponsored by the Lopez Lions Club. Starting in the Village, there is a 5K route and a 10K route, as well as a short “1 Mile Romp”. Prizes are awarded, but for the most part it is just a fun way to start the day.
- The old-fashioned small town parade starts at 11:00 a.m. and is also sponsored by the Lopez Lion’s Club. Come join us either in the parade or to watch along Fisherman Bay Road starting between the Galley Restaurant and the Islander Resort, winding through the Village on Lopez Road ending at Week’s Road and Fisherman Bay Road. Any organization or individual may participate. Entries can be elaborate (for Lopez) floats or simple costumes and posters. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. between the Galley Restaurant and the Islander Resort on Fisherman Bay Road.
- You can spend part of the afternoon at the Annual Lopez Library Book Sale, a book lovers dream.
- The day ends with our spectacular evening fireworks display, presented by the Lopez Community Fireworks Display Committee. See our Community Calendar for other activities over the holiday weekend.
