About Jane

Hi, my name is Jane Fuller and I’m running as a candidate for the San Juan County Council position for District 3 (Lopez, Shaw, Decatur, Blakely) San Juan County, Washington.

Meet Jane

I have lived on Lopez Island full-time with my husband and daughter since 2017. I work as a professional consultant and possess a strong commitment to my local community and volunteer service. I have lived and worked internationally throughout my life and hold dual American/Canadian citizenship.

In the mid-70’s when my family lived in Seattle we discovered the San Juan Islands. We fell in love with the beauty of the area and bought a parcel of land on Lopez. As a young girl I camped on the land with my family for ten years before we built a structure that is now my home.  Since my childhood I have come here every year. My connection to Lopez compelled me to move here on a full-time basis as an adult, with my own family.

Since then, I have become involved in local issues and causes, deepening my understanding of and relationship with the community. I have committed to working with our public school on Lopez Island.  I have also been involved, with my husband, in the effort to build a public swimming pool on our small island, where 92% of elementary students do not know how to swim. In 2020 I was elected in District 3 to serve on the County Charter Review Commission, through which I learned a great deal about our county government and the challenges it faces.

During my career in international development which focused on issues of governance and human rights, working with private sector and not-for-profit organizations as well as governmental institutions and the United Nations, I have acquired valuable and relevant experience for the position of county council.

Throughout my career I have gained skills in project management; policy and strategy development and implementation; monitoring and evaluation; communication and networking; and building partnerships with multiple diverse stakeholders.

Both my professional and volunteer experience will serve me, and you, well as a council member for the entire county.
